A modern Maine explorer

As my friends and family can attest, I’m a bit nuts about museums. Day trips and vacations are never complete without discovering a new museum or two. One of the things I love about working in public relations here at the Museum & Theatre is giving tours – when I guide someone through our exhibits, I find that [...]

Thank You, Reba!

When you’re a child magic is everywhere. Things become what they aren’t. A boulder becomes a fortress for a fairy army, a bumble bee a fairy prince’s noble steed. Mermaids frolic in the frothy waves at the beach and terrible monsters lurk in woods. Anything is possible. You can fly, become invisible and even become a cat. It all happens. Then, a strange phenomenon called “growing up” occurs.

We’ve Got Milk!

I knew the Got Milk? tour was coming to visit the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine today, but I didn’t know they’d create such a fun atmosphere! The shipyard had music, games, giveaways and milkshakes – quite a party! I’m psyched that they’ll be back tomorrow (Thursday, 9/19) from 10:30-12:30 to do it all [...]

Putting the brakes on the “summer slide”

putting-the-brakes-on-the-%e2%80%9csummer-slide%e2%80%9d

Early this summer I was invited to attend a PTO meeting at Plummer Motz Elementary School (my alma mater!) in Falmouth. The topic of discussion was the dreaded “summer slide” – learning losses that children may suffer if they’re not getting any intellectual stimulation during the summer months. The room was packed – clearly this [...]

We’re on TV!

were-on-tv

I can’t stop watching this YouTube clip. No, it’s not a cat playing the piano – it’s the new public service announcement created for us by WCSH 6! It’s exciting to see my home away from home on TV, of course, but what really keeps me watching is the spirit of play it captures. When [...]

Coming (back) soon – the State Theatre!

coming-back-soon-the-state-theatre

Like most of us who work here in the Arts District, I’m always excited when I hear about something new in the neighborhood – and this is a biggie!  The State Theatre is scheduled to reopen in the fall! I grew up just outside of Portland, so I have many memories of seeing amazing performances [...]

We were excited to welcome a lot of dads to the Museum & Theatre of Father’s Day – and they were excited to spend an afternoon playing with their children. It was a great day to learn, explore, and just be silly together! Offering free admission for dads on Father’s Day (and for moms on [...]

An amazing day of caring and sharing!

an-amazing-day-of-caring-and-sharing

I bet when these volunteers signed on for the Day of Caring, they had no idea they’d be toppling the Taj Mahal! I’ve always known that the United Way is a great organization doing wonderful work around the world, but seeing their impact locally – right in our backyard – serves as a pretty amazing [...]
