Hi! my name is Kelsey Cyr and I’m so excited to be an Art Education Intern here at the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine this fall! I have a BA in art history and went to school at SUNY Purchase in New York. I have been an education intern at numerous art museums, but this is my first experience working in a children’s museum. I love working with families in a museum setting and leading programs, especially art programs! My professional interests include museum education, informal teaching, and art history. In my free time I love to be outside, read, and spend time with my three sisters and brother.
This past weekend at the Museum it was extremely busy! I led numerous art programs and was so inspired to see how many children just jumped in to participate without any examples or much instruction from me. What I really enjoy about informal learning environments like here at the Museum is that as an educator I can act more as a facilitator rather than a teacher. I provided paper, crayons, and liquid watercolor paints, and it was amazing to see how every child immediately started manipulating the materials in various ways. I really love free-form art projects because every child surprises me with their approach and final project. Each one turns out to be a unique work of art!
